all things birth

About me
I am a woman, a mother, a grandmother - and a midwife...
...I am also a daughter and a granddaughter, carried by my women elders from generation to generation and handing on through body, soul and spirit, the legacy of my mitochondria, my story...
And as a midwife, I have held space for other women, who like myself, brought a child earthside - generation to generation, handing on the legacy of their story...
And of their choosing - for it is the woman's place to choose where and with whom she conceives, gestates, births and nurtures her offspring, her story...
Our stories are uniquely our own - and as such, my perception, feelings and thoughts on every subject within this website, are my own - and are not intended to be taken as an absolute by anyone. I simply discuss MY thoughts, opinions - some of which are based on experience, gut feeling (intuitive knowing), articles, research and literature reviews. So please do not take anything that I write, or say, as authoritative or as medical advice. You are you; I am me.
The links and references I make to other sources are there for your use - whether for the opportunity to further explore the topic - or as a means to support you on your journey to self knowledge.
My philosophy is that we women are fully thinking, feeling human beings, and that as adults, we are capable of making our own discernments and decisions on what is true for ourselves. Each of us is our own expert and the birthing experience gives this holy opportunity to explore who we are in a most intimate way. This is the beginning of Individualised care, the unique care package. This is taking responsibility for our own health and wellness. This is us, blessed beyond measure.

Moments in time

aspects of the self
we have many faces: those we share with ourselves, intimate others and the world at large. How familiar are you with your many faces? Are they your friends or arch enemies?...

we are what we eat
the Mother Earth has provided us with everything we need to stay strong, stay healthy. Whether we choose to be vegan, vegetarian, carnivorous or a fruititarian - we need to feel comfortable with these choices. We have to own them; they need to reflect our philosophy of life here on earth.

our use of movement
Most women acknowledge the first movement - the quickening - of their young. And whether your first movement was embraced as the sensation likened to that of a butterfly or a rumbling in the tummy, this was significant, it helps us bond with out unborn child. Movement is significant.
It makes us strong and powerful.
It makes us capable of doing what it is we choose to do.

transition...
I remember when the opening of my womb was complete and I began to move into decent mode...
I saw a staircase lined with every woman who had ever given birth, knowing it was my turn to transit into the unknown and surrender...
Fear? - yes. and yet I had not expected that to be so. And I roared, so loudly the neighbours were still talking about it days later.
And now, I am facing a different transition, letting go of what I have nurtured and carefully navigated for sooo long - and looking out to the horizon trying to get a visual on what's next.
Fear? - yes. Expected? - thankfully, yes.
And will I roar? Ha! It'll be more like a cackle, lol...
